Inhalt
Despite serious and incurable illnesses, people want to experience a dignified end of life.Palliative care offers special approaches to working with seriously ill and dying people in order to make life worth living until the very end. This requires not only dealing with the topics of death and dying, but also with the holistic treatment of pain and the alleviation of emotional, social, and spiritual problems.
This seminar offers an insight into pediatric palliative care.
Seminar Description
Palliative care for children refers to active and comprehensive care that takes equal account of the child's body, soul, and spirit and ensures support for the affected family. It begins at the time of diagnosis and is independent of whether the child is receiving treatment with curative objectives. The care of these children is particularly complex due to the critical nature of their illness and the need for interdisciplinary and multi-professional care in accordance with a biopsychosocial care concept.
In this course, we aim to familiarize students with the field of palliative psychological support for children, adolescents, and their families, and we address the particular challenges of palliative care.
Support is provided in different phases of the illness. The focus is on alleviating stressful symptoms and strengthening and promoting quality of life and resources.
